Security Manager
The Australian Embassy in Riyadh is seeking a highly capable Security Manager to develop and implement security strategies at the Embassy and ensure the safety and security of the Embassy’s premises, assets, staff, and visitors. This is a Locally Engaged Staff (LES) position. The starting salary for this position (LE5-1) will be SAR 18,722 per month in addition to 3 months’ salary for housing allowances and a months’ salary for Eid bonus among other terms and benefits.
The successful candidate may be required to leave Saudi Arabia on a final exit visa and return on a new work visa sponsored by the Australian Embassy.
Please be advised that the Australian Embassy in Riyadh does not assist with relocation. Any costs associated with taking up the position would be the responsibility of the successful candidate.

About The Department of Foreign Affairs and Trade
The role of the Department of Foreign Affairs and Trade (DFAT) is to advance the interests of Australia and Australians internationally. This involves strengthening Australia’s security, enhancing Australia’s prosperity, delivering an effective and high-quality overseas aid program and helping Australian travellers and Australians overseas.
The department provides foreign, trade and development policy advice to the Australian Government. DFAT also works with other Australian government agencies to drive coordination of Australia’s pursuit of global, regional and bilateral interests.
About the position
Under general direction from Post Security Officer, the Security Manager assists with the overall delivery of effective protective security policy and operations at the Australian Embassy in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia. The Embassy is accredited to Bahrain, Oman and Yemen.
The position is responsible for the management of the Embassy’s vehicle fleet, security equipment and infrastructure, the administration of the static security guarding contract and assists with the analysis, design, and implementation of effective security measures to ensure the protection of our people, properties, and information.
Key responsibilities of the position include but are not limited to:
- Lead, manage and coordinate security operations and related tasks to ensure the protection of staff, assets and property in the Chancery and A-based residences, including maintenance.
- Provide high level and strategic advice to post management on security and protocols in support of post’s objectives and support any security infrastructure/improvement projects
- Provide accurate, timely security risk management advice in response to changes in the security environment and collate and draft weekly security reporting for the PSO and RSO on topics including guarding performance, compliance reporting, incident reporting and the security environment.
- Manage the day-to-day operations of the guard force, including standard operating procedures, training, contract management, reporting and other related issues.
- Establish work priorities, monitor performance, provide regular feedback, and identify learning opportunities for team members.
- Assist Post Security Officer (PSO) with effective implementation of the DFAT Diplomatic Security Framework policies and procedures and preparing planning documents.
- Monitor, analyse and report on the security environment at post and in accreditations, assist with security assessments for new properties and events and respond to security incidents and report in accordance with departmental guidelines.
- Undertake regular physical security checks of the Chancery, HOM residence and other A-based residences. Support the PSO in the provision of timely and accurate security updates to staff.
- Develop, implement, and manage security access arrangements for clients, visitors and others attending the Chancery and HOM Residence
- Assist with preparation and testing of security aspects of Crisis Action Plans (CAPs); review safety and security advice for travel advice on post’s accreditations and manage Emergency Radio Network, providing training to staff as needed, and act as an emergency contact for A-based and their families
- Administer CCTV, Electronic Access Control (including visitor passes), Duress Alarm and other alarm systems and ensure security equipment is fit for purpose and well maintained.
- Ensure Embassy compliance with Australian Work Health and Safety standards, including completing annual risk register updates, handling incident reporting, ensuring regular checks on first aid kits and AEDs, WHS checks on residential properties and manage fire and other emergency drills. Establish, develop and strengthen cooperative working relationships with a range of internal and external stakeholders including local authorities, like-minded embassies and organisations.

Qualifications/Experience/Knowledge/Skills
- Demonstrated ability to think strategically, exercise discretion and sound judgment.
- Demonstrated experience directing security operations in a supervisory capacity (police, security, military, diplomatic mission or international organisation).
- Security risk management experience, including experience drafting security risk assessments.
- Demonstrated ability to manage access control systems, undertake security planning and crisis management, and contribute to emergency response and procedures.
- Demonstrated experience managing security guards, guarding contracts and vehicle fleet management (experience with Armoured Vehicles desirable).
- Knowledge of the Middle East Security Environment.
- Knowledge of diplomatic security and the risk profile of the Australian Government overseas.
- Experience with Australian or similar WHS standards and principles.
- Technical knowledge of security-related equipment desirable.
- Strong ICT skills, proficiency with Microsoft Office applications and the ability to pick up new systems easily.
- High level written and oral communication skills in English (Arabic language skills desirable).
- Strong communication, liaison and interpersonal skills and demonstrated ability to establish and maintain effective stakeholder relationships.
- Demonstrated time management, organisational skills, good judgement, flexibility and resourcefulness.
