Services for Australians Overseas

Assisting Australians within limits

One of the main functions of the Australian Embassy is to provide a range of services (within limits) to Australians.  The Consular Section (telephone +966 11 250 0990; email [email protected]) is open between 0750 and 1545 hours Sunday to Thursday. An emergency after office hours service is available by calling the Embassy switchboard, +966 11 250 0900 for a recorded message and instructions about making contact.  With most problems we can "help you to help yourself", by providing information, advice or guidance, or we will act on your behalf if that is required. We will do whatever we can to assist in the shortest possible time. Please bear in mind that in some countries, local bureaucratic or legal processes can be slow by Australian standards.

Passports

All passport applications completed online must be printed by the applicant and lodged at a passport office together with relevant supporting documents, fee, etc. There is currently no way of lodging an Australian passport application electronically (online).

Applications for passports can be completed and printed using the online passport service at  www.passports.gov.au

All passport fees are payable in Saudi Riyals at the nominated exchange rate which changes monthly. Please contact the Embassy for the most current fee. Fees can be paid by bank draft or bank cheque, made payable to "Australian Embassy, Riyadh". Credit cards and personal cheques will not be accepted, and no other currency is acceptable. If paying by non-Saudi bank cheque please include an additional SR45 to cover international bank charges.

From 1 January 2016 the following changes will apply:

Increased passport fees will apply. Please contact the Embassy for the most current fee.

There will be a discrete application fee for emergency passports. Emergency passports will still be processed within two business days where possible and once all required documentation has been provided.

From 1 January 2016, child applicants aged 16 or 17 will be issued with a 10-year passport instead of the five-year passport currently issued to children under 18. Applications must still include parental consent, and they must be personally lodged by the applicant together with a parent. The application fee will be the same as for adults, reflecting the longer validity of the passport to be issued. For more information about child passport applications, check the passport website: https://www.passports.gov.au/

Children and persons aged 75 years and over are no longer eligible for frequent traveller passports.
